Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). A few years later, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Mitchell was promoted to the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of a panel discussion at the 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president from 1981-1988. Her reporting included a number of important stories like the Iran-contra affair, the tax reform and the budget and also the arms control. She traveled extensively together with the president Reagan to meet together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
